What's great about this is that your eyes are drawn to the exact center of the photo because of the darker rock and the light that seems to be coming straight down and brightly accents the wave action. It's energetic.
I probably shouldn't divulge this secret but what Andree noticed is from a subtle effect... a defocus around a central point: the rock in the middle of the frame. (This was Picasa-done, and its diameter was put at maximum with the effect at minimum.)

I did this computer rendering from a photo shot by Gail Slaughter in California. That framing alone would cost probably $300 in the flesh!
